Choosing more sustainable materials

By using sustainable-material products, you’ve taken part in creating a better world. Nowadays, more than 60% of the IKEA product range is based on renewable materials, and more than 10% contains recycled materials. By 2030, all will be renewable or recycled, making it easier than ever to find affordable and sustainable high quality home furnishings.

Making good use of wood

IKEA is rooted in the Scandinavian design heritage. That means a strong emphasis on responsibly sourced wood. All IKEA wood complies with the IWAY Forestry Standard, which bans sources involved in forest-related conflicts or illegal harvests. And, by the end of 2020, all of our wood will be FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified.

Switch to recycled and renewable materials

We use recycled materials whenever possible. Recycled wood, plastic, paper, and metal are just a few that we love to work with. In addition, we love to use natural and renewable materials such as bamboo and natural fibers. Our goal is to create a better world.

Comfort yet sustainable

We love cotton! This natural material creates soft, breathable bedding for a better night’s sleep. Since 2015, all cotton in our products comes from more sustainable sources that minimise the use of pesticides and fertilisers.
