IKEA launches a new edition of the NYTILLVERKAD collection

Tangerang, 22 January 2024 – To satisfy customers' high enthusiasm for iconic products, IKEA continues to innovate and launches another unique Nytillverkad collection design. This launch features works by influential IKEA designers, Karin Mobring and Gillis Lundgren.

The latest edition of the Nytillverkad collection, available in IKEA stores starting January 22, 2024, reimagines gorgeous, classic design items from the 1960s and early 1970s for today's home.

"With the new additions to the Nytillverkad collection, we invite you to recall a time when bold patterns, optimistic colors, and unconventional solutions were the hallmarks of furniture style," said Ririn Basuki, IKEA Indonesia's PR and Communication Manager.

IKEA is delighted to present the third edition of the Nytillverkad collection, which features iconic pieces redesigned in new colors and materials to meet today's needs and dreams.

Nytillverkad's third edition of the collection is inspired by a time when youth culture, pop music, and anti-politics protests were transforming the world. At the time, IKEA used innovative materials like painted particle board and plastic to produce furniture with a young appearance. Bold designs, bright colors, comfy seats, and soft high-pile rugs defined the furniture style of the time, and this new edition of Nytillverkad was launched to allow design enthusiasts to experience those days.

It was Karin Mobring, the first female IKEA designer, who had a significant influence on IKEA style. In 1964, after seeing a wooden armchair designed by Karin at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, Ingvar Kamprad hired her to join the IKEA design staff.

Karin was regarded as one of IKEA's most prolific and forward-thinking designers throughout the 1970s. Karin is a talented designer who has created approximately a hundred IKEA goods while remaining true to the classic Scandinavian rustic style. The CROMI side table, one of his most recognizable pieces, has been reissued in the new Nytillverkad collection as the BAGGBODA side table, which features a white or bright yellow table top and a chrome plated frame.

Gillis Lundgren, who joined IKEA in 1954, was a visionary designer with plenty of ideas and excitement. He collaborated closely with Ingvar Kamprad in shaping IKEA into what it is today. Gillis helped create the IKEA logo, created catalog covers, photographed products, and worked as a furniture designer. One of his most iconic pieces is the MILA armchair, which has been redesigned as the DYVLINGE swivel armchair. The roomy PUCK armchair from 1969, dubbed SOTENÄS, has returned.

In addition, contemporary Swedish designers Sven Fristedt and Ehlén Johansson contributed significantly to the collection's design. Sven Fristedt's designs from the 60s and 70s are featured on STRECKFLY pillowcases and ÄNGSFIBBLA pre-cut textiles. The SKOGSTUNDRA vase, designed by Ehlén Johansson, one of Sweden's most notable designers and a Red Dot Design Award winner, is a small, delicate vase with a high neck that supports cut flowers.

"Vintage furniture has recently made a comeback, and demand for particular IKEA models that are popular among collectors is increasing. That's why we decided to bring back a few of our design icons, and we're happy to see such strong interest from customers of all ages, particularly young people who are discovering our design legacy and adopting these creative solutions to express themselves at home. For us, these products are the essence of democratic design: they are timeless, because they combine beautiful form, great function, sustainability, affordable prices and long-lasting quality," explained Ririn Basuki.

NYTILLVERKAD's renowned collection includes a variety of product series to meet home needs such as furniture, accessories, and textiles. The Nytillverkad collections are available at all IKEA stores. Product purchases can also be performed online via the official IKEA website (IKEA.co.id) and the IKEA Indonesia apps.
