After six years of operating in Indonesia, IKEA Restaurant and Cafe officially received halal certification by The Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs, and Cosmetics, the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM MUI) on 21 October 2020 through the decision of the MUI’s Fatwa Commission Meeting. This is done by IKEA Indonesia to provide a sense of security and comfort for consumers of IKEA Restaurants and Cafes, as well as to comply with government regulations Law no. 33/2014 concerning Guarantee of Halal Products. IKEA Restaurant and Cafe have applied its halal certification to the restaurant area, Food Counter, Bistro, Bakery, FIKA, and employee’s restaurants. Thus, all of the foods and drinks served in all IKEA stores have implemented a Halal Assurance System.
“Indonesia is a country in which the majority of the people is Muslim and we are aware of the importance of consuming halal food. Therefore, since the first day of operating, IKEA Indonesia has always been using halal ingredients for foods that we served. Now that IKEA Restaurant and Cafe has received halal certification from LPPOM MUI, our customers feel safer and more comfortable while enjoying our foods,” said IKEA Food Commercial Manager, Ririh Dibyono. IKEA Indonesia will continue to make various efforts to achieve customer satisfaction, either in the services or products of IKEA. This halal certification is a form of IKEA Indonesia commitment to create a better everyday life for many people.
IKEA Indonesia has to go through several provisions that have been given in the Halal Assurance System to obtain halal certification. One of the important aspects of The Halal Assurance System is to use halal-certified ingredients. IKEA Indonesia has always reported the ingredients that they used for approval from LPPOM MUI. The regulation is included in the IKEA Indonesia Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to ensure that the used ingredients start from the source, distribution, processing, until serving, could be clearly traced in accordance with the Halal Assurance System.
To give a halal status, MUI has examined IKEA Indonesia store locations. Inspections of IKEA Restaurant and Cafe outlets include storage, serving areas, kitchens, and as many as 220 food and beverage products listed on the menu, including IKEA Restaurant and Cafe signature menu, Swedish Meatball. All menus have been declared halal by LPPOM MUI.
During the pandemic, IKEA Indonesia strictly implements health protocols as recommended by the government to ensure the safety and comfort of customers and coworkers. For customers who want to enjoy dishes from IKEA Restaurant and Cafe, take away and delivery services are available through an online transportation application to maintain customer safety during the pandemic.
